Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up to be an Al Muntaha tutor?

Click the button below to fill out the sign up form to “Become a Tutor”. At this time, only High School/University students and professional teachers can become tutors with Al Muntaha.

What is the time commitment?

Tutors are expected to meet with their student for 60 minutes, once a week. They are also expected to prepare lesson plans to fill their 60 minute sessions.

What if I can’t make a session?

We completely understand that occasional sickness, vacations, or other commitments can prevent you from making every session. We ask that you notify your tutoring advisor at least 48 hours in advance of your session if you aren’t able to make it.

What should I teach my student?

Your student may tell you that they have school work they need help with, or they may tell you about their curriculum, which would allow you to fill your lessons with similar content to what they are studying at school. If not, don’t worry. During your first introductory session with your student, your tutoring advisor will help you gauge the interests of your student, based on which you could structure future lessons. Your tutoring advisor will also provide you with many resources to help you structure your lessons. If you are ever stuck on a lesson plan, reach out to your tutoring advisor and they will be more than happy to help you plan a lesson.

What will I use to video conference with my student?

It depends. The two video conferencing platforms we use are Zoom and Google Meets. Depending on your student’s access to these platforms and your own comfortability with them, your tutoring advisor will send you your weekly meeting link and the video conferencing platform you will be using before your first session.

What if my student doesn’t show up?

If your student misses a session, it is very likely that they experienced a power outage. If your student still hasn’t joined your session after 15 minutes from the scheduled start time, you can leave the meeting and email your tutoring advisor letting them know. They will investigate the reason for the no-show and ensure that your student is on time the following week.
